I thought the “White Lives Matter” shirt was appropriate in the context of a political commentator and a mainstream agitator trying to make an edgy point. Worse things have happened. On it’s merits, it certainly made me stop and think about the movement for a moment. If I were Candace Owens, and assuming I wasn’t an opportunistic slime-ball and actually believes in what I’m doing, would a political movement like Black Lives Matter inherently offend me? Is there a case to be made that by framing the discussion around police brutality as a “black lives” thing, do you undercut any real discussion on how to actually solve the issue? To me, at least, the shirt evoked these questions and my first thought was “Finally, Candace Owens does something interesting, Kanye West is one hell of a muse”. But I also understand the threads sentiments that trying to undercut a movement like this is inherently racist. So it’s hard to say.
