I find this more or less acceptable given the context that she went head-on running TP. So I don’t hold this against her really except that it seems like they feel they were achieving something where it’s more like it demonstrates what Charlie achieved; sort of taking false credit. To my way of thinking, the sparklers and outfit during the memorial, where it seems clear that she was being used by the GOP and went in asking no questions or with no thoughts of her own except to embrace pageantry, strike me as far far worse inditement of her character.
I want them to have a better, more savvy plan than this group could come up with arm-charing it. They are one-half of the leadership of the most powerful country known to exist, I expect them to do more. Shouldn’t be on me to call the shots, all I have is “don’t relent on the shutdown when they’re clearly feeling the pressure”. It’s on them to bring a better plan to the table than that.
So full of shit, Tulsi. Just release the Epstein files already. With any luck Obama will address this, if the right wants to arrest a president, I think two can play at this game except the left has legitimate grievances based in this reality. Please oh please let’s go down this road.

The either-side-ism is rich, if there was ever a world where Trump would allow such a debate, Harris would surely show up and attempt it. I like Lex and suspect he thinks all this means he’s remaining neutral, when in reality by suggesting both sides are roughly the same he’s giving one side way more credit than they deserve

This strikes me as a good thing. If the right wants to clean house, and the left wants to clean house, can’t we just throw them all in jail and be done with it? Surely AOC is perfectly innocent but the courts will sort that out in time. The trick here is to not be afraid of the courts, the courts will set us free. Let’s not protect our side by ignoring the crimes of the other - they ran for office, they knew the risks.
I thought the “White Lives Matter” shirt was appropriate in the context of a political commentator and a mainstream agitator trying to make an edgy point. Worse things have happened. On it’s merits, it certainly made me stop and think about the movement for a moment. If I were Candace Owens, and assuming I wasn’t an opportunistic slime-ball and actually believes in what I’m doing, would a political movement like Black Lives Matter inherently offend me?
The “money’s going to Ukraine” part is what makes this guy a bad person. Seems like the greatest superpower in history could fix the water of a small town and support those suffering from an invasion all at the same time. This guy doesn’t want to help either one, he just wants to use one to browbeat the other. Cool stuff, republicans.

I’ve lived in SC my entire life. Libertarianism is big here, and it’s been co-oped by the GOP and their culture wars. People are thoroughly convinced that somehow Trumpism washes out to libertarianism. So even when you point out the clown car and how many people fit into it, they’re willing to excuse it because the ends justify the means. In their view, the Democrats are the ones out-foxing them at every turn so they view this as the late stages of a zero-sum game.
Two other branches of government exist to provide a check and balance to the courts. Democrats run both those branches of government. I wonder if there are any constitutional remedies to this current situation? Maybe someone should kill the filibuster and unpack the courts? Just a suggestion…

I can’t tell if the right is actually sick of wokeness, or just want to weaponize it to further hurt the Disney corporation. Maybe it’s a little of both, but either way I’m getting tired of everything becoming trench warfare against a battalion of dipshits. The truth is, as a secular progressive I show _enormous_ tolerance towards the Christian right and their backward lunacy. This tolerance is the problem, it’s given them the breathing room to dismantle things, and their stupidity has given them all the cover they needed as it’s hard to see these clowns as any kind of serious threat.
This comment section is why reducing mass shootings will be so difficult in America. In the same breath, people admonish our government for refusing to act over decades while saying they can’t get rid of their guns in case the government moves against them. We’re a nation where, daily, a gunman goes into a building with impunity and kills as many people as possible. If we can’t get past GO on a concept like reducing gun ownership, then we’re already too far gone.
It’s hard to imagine how any of these idiotic people remain in office. They are always spouting self-important nonsense. Literally, everything children do and wear is at the behest of adults. We can force them to wear shirts and shoes, but masks are somehow a bridge too far. It’s clear that the left has a moral imperative to crater this party and ensure they never return to power.

If I was running a justice system with a small colony in some kind of Walking Dead situation, it would be on the table I’m sure. Do I think the great state of South Carolina should be in charge of rather a man lives or dies? I do not, and I don’t want its blood on my hands either.

The thing to keep in mind here is FOX News has a responsibility to filter out people like her and find someone who can speak intelligently on the topic. Saying she set the movement back is a bit disingenuous considering FOX was looking for this, struck gold, and now are pretending she represents the values of the movement. FOX News is the bad actor, she’s just an idiot who got used.
The only real story here is that Trump supporters are so neutered and locked in their own mental prisons they can’t just say what they feel when given the planned opportunity. Something tells me if Trump hung with any of these people, he’d immediately tell them all to grow a pair.

Everyone’s rhetoric veers off into flights of fancy. Team red or team blue, every argument spins wildly into some hot take completely detached from reality. It’s like one group compiles a list of facts which are neither here nor there, and the next group weaves it into some rhetoric designed to rile the mob and crystalize some false narrative.

I feel like this presidency is underwhelming to those who were expecting Biden to transform into Elizabeth Warren. Really, Biden has done what he said he’d do, and you guys are mad you lost the election. That’s fine, I would have preferred someone more to your tastes too, but to say he’s weak is to just give the right more ammo.

I don’t know if the divide here is actually left or right. I think any reasonable person can see the complexities here. What seems to have a party divide is the interpretation of these complexities.
What really strikes me most about the whole matter is that we seemed to have tripped over some loophole - where if you’re feeling particularly predatory one night, and you hear about a riot breaking out, you can grab a gun and see what kind of trouble you can get yourself into.
These things get complicated. Personally, I figure he was hoping to shoot someone and so I hope he gets the book thrown at him. But, that’s a personal opinion based primarily on media recountings during our ongoing culture wars.
At the end of the day, I don’t know what happened here, nor do I know Kyle or what was going through his mind during this. It’s entirely possible that, legally, he was in the right.
Yeah, I’d say they are. I personally think the Democrat’s war is the more correct one - mail-in, early voting, automatic registration are all things that seem OK to me, but I can put myself in a red hat and see how they could see that as an out-and-out attack.
From my perspective, Republicans pushing Voter ID, the constant recounts, and the insistence that everything is doomed constantly sure seem like an attack to me.
No space, biology, chemistry and time aren’t good enough reasons to justify forcing others to keep you alive. You’ve no objective reason to force others to pay for your healthcare beyond “society” and “everyone else is doing it”, you’re just appealing to bandwagon and authority.
Objectively speaking, healthcare is a universal need as it’s something every living person needs. Logically, since we know everyone needs it, and we understand morally that barriers such as the ability to pay for help shouldn’t block someone from receiving help, the only reasonable thing to do is off-load the cost away from the individual.
In fairness to The republicans, I don’t need a commission to tell me what I already know: Some republicans are willing to stage a revolt, try to mame other Republicans in their way, and then all pretend it never happened out of loyalty to the party. It’s hard to even process how dangerous this is. Had this insanity succeeded, Republicans would clearly have supported it. With this, they make clear that the Republic is one flash mob away from getting overthrown, and in some circumstances they support it.
Hot take, but I think it’s within the realm of reason that the officer did mean to go for their tazer but was confused in the heat of the moment. This reaffirms my belief that an armed police force so willing to meet escalation with escalation mostly serves to make tense situations worse.
If you’re looking for a libertarian view to latch onto here, consider that I (and any criminal not sentenced to death) have a constitutionally guaranteed right to life.
I don’t understand, if it was premeditated days beforehand, and they all met at a Trump rally, where he directed them to execute their plan, how is that not incitement? The premeditation hurts his case, especially if it can be proved that he knew about the plan beforehand - which clearly he did, telling them to march down. Would be a big coincidence if he decided independently to do it too
What doesn’t bend, breaks. What would fill my heart with joy, is that instead of saber-rattling, if he were to acknowledge this horrible cycle and try to do something positive about it. Republicans like Mitch McConnell actually working towards bi-partisanship would not only be a sight to see but might actually heal some wounds.

The ratings argument is nonsense, this isn’t a rally. More people will tune in to the crazy one. I for one am voting for Biden but am more interested in finally seeing Trump pretend to be President for an hour. If he just acts normal for one hour he could really complicate things for Biden. I’m interested to see just how he’ll make it weird and awful.

These days I’m fairly progressive, I don’t agree with the libertarian agenda but I do see value in having more legitimate political views in the race and would support process improvements to see that happen. I think it could get a bit dangerous, two fairly conservative parties could split the vote for themselves, giving the other side an unfair advantage. I think you would need to couple it with some ranked voting system if you want to get an accurate gauge at what the people want.
I’ll tell you this much, this has certainly shifted my position of The Republicans as untrustworthy liars. I guess that opinion has been forming for a while, but it’s cemented now. You can’t reason with liars, you can’t trust liars, all you can do is defeat them and get them off the field.

> How do people flip from mocking everyone as snowflakes to being the ultimate victims and snowflakes themselves and not bat an eye? Not have an ounce of cognitive dissonance?
Because it’s a strategy. They understand that the overriding goal for everyone on their side is to win. So they can swing wildly from preaching accountability to mustache-twirling because it’s all just a means to an end. When you experience the cognitive dissonance, it’s softened by the fact that your team is kicking their asses.
Wait, what evidence? Nobody has presented evidence. All I’m aware of is an allegation. What we have evidence of is Trump trying to coerce an investigation of a political rival out of a foreign power. If the Trump camp had _evidence_ they wouldn’t need this underhanded investigation.

The double standard from the right is intense, it’s hard to believe they don’t see the hypocrisy. FOX news tried to hit him with this last night. “You can elect to pay more in taxes, why don’t you?” type of argument is so weak I can’t believe they tried to hang a whole discussion on it.
